Bees & Homework

There is math homework for both grades:

Gr. 5:  Show these three numbers using 1s, 10s, 100s, and 1000s shapes (due W):
a)  302
b)  1223
c)  3050

Gr. 6: Read pp 46, 47, and top of 48; take notes if you feel it would be helpful (also due W)

Art got underway with Mrs. Martin today. Come Thursday night to Meet the Teacher and see what she did with the class!

It was a sunny afternoon, so we got outside to "Gerry's Garden" where the bees were happily feeding in the warm sunshine. We sketched flowers and later added a bit of colour.

In the top picture you should be able to spot at least one bee, and in the bottom picture, while it may look like a bunch of greenery, if you look closely near the centre you should see a fat orb spider in his web. Zoom in and see!

In the video below, there are at least 3 individuals from two species of bees active this afternoon.

1)  Thanks for being so diligent in getting all those forms filled out, cheques written, and forms brought back to class!

2)  Sure hope you can make it out to "Meet the Teacher" night coming this Thursday Oct. 2!

3) No new homework for Division 4 students, although several are still working on a journal entry which is to be typed, then pictures added and the document saved to a USB stick (no need to print it, just save to USB).

Science and Math are underway; Socials and French next.

We are learning about Latitude and Longitude as part of the Mapping unit, and so our classroom is becoming festooned with string (Lat & Long). Come see!

Weekend Homework

For Monday:

1)   Gym strip (P.E. M, T, Th)
2)  Bring in all forms a.s.a.p.
3)  Duo-Tangs

For Thursday (Oct 2)
Name Tag completed

Students were asked to take some writing they had done in class today home, type it up on a computer, add a couple of pictures, and return to school on Monday with the assignment saved to a USB stick. If any part of this cannot easily be done this weekend, for whatever reason, do not stress about it. Students who cannot accomplish this from home will be given the opportunity to complete the work at school, and this is my way of finding out who can and who cannot add pictures to a file and save. No need to print. Just bring in the file saved to a memory stick.

Below is an example I wrote this afternoon, with 2 small pictures added.

The Cup Song

At yesterday's Welcome Back assembly, the students from Div 4 last year (2013/14), performed The Cup Song to the delight of the entire school. Well done to every single student!

Back to School. Yippee!!

It was so nice these past two days to be back in school. Two reasons:

1) I got to spend part of the morning yesterday and today with last year's class. (BONUS!)

2) I got to spend the rest of today with my new class! If you are viewing this, and you are associated with this year's class, congratulations on making it here.

Tomorrow *last year's* class will perform Anna Kendrick's "Cup Song" at our Welcome Back assembly for the rest of the school. We'd practiced it a lot in late May and June, and were about to perform it when the Strike happened. We picked up this morning right where we left off, and it was as if the three intervening months hadn't happened.
